Ask most Calgarians what November is for and you get a shrug. The leaves are down, the patios are packed away, and December gets all the attention. That makes November one of the easier months to plan, because fewer people are usually competing for the same bookings.
The list of things to do in Calgary in November follows the month itself. The early weeks are about adjusting to the cold and the dark. The middle has Remembrance Day. The last stretch starts to feel like the holidays.
The first real cold
November is often when the city gets its first stretch of weather that stays cold for more than a day. The clocks go back early in the month too, so evenings feel dark much sooner than they did in October.
A few jobs are worth doing now rather than later:
- Winter tires. Book the swap before the first heavy snowfall, when every shop in the city gets the same idea at once.
- The winter kit. Find the gloves, the scraper and the good boots while you still have a choice, not on the morning you need them.
- A short walk in daylight. Lunchtime is the brightest part of a November weekday, and often the warmest. Use it while the evenings are dark early.
- One evening plan with a roof. Decide now what you do on the night it is too cold to bother, so it does not turn into another night on the couch.
Remembrance Day on November 11
Remembrance Day falls on November 11 every year, and ceremonies take place across Calgary that morning, at cenotaphs, legion branches and community halls. Many follow the tradition of two minutes of silence at 11 AM.
If you plan to attend one, check the organiser's own details for the start time and dress warmly, since many are held outdoors. If you cannot attend, you can still observe the two minutes of silence wherever you are.
Hockey season and evenings out
By November hockey is fully under way, which gives the month a built-in plan for a lot of households. Watching a game with friends, at home or somewhere with a big screen, is about as low-effort as a Calgary evening gets.
Beyond the rink, some of the best things to do in Calgary in November are the ones you have been putting off since summer. A concert, a play, a class you meant to sign up for, a restaurant you keep driving past. Weekend bookings are usually easier to get now than they will be in four weeks.
Early holiday markets and lights
Toward the end of the month the city starts to shift into holiday mode. Some markets open in the last weeks of November, some light displays switch on, and others wait until December. Each one sets its own dates, so check the organiser's site rather than assuming last year's schedule still holds.
November is also the month to settle December plans. If you are organising a work or group party, our guide to Christmas party venues in Calgary explains why the date comes before the venue. For the month that follows, see things to do in Calgary in December.
Golf in November, at winter rates
For golfers, November is when the clubs either go into storage or come indoors. PGM Indoor Golf is just south of Glenmore Trail in SE Calgary, with six private bays, each with its own simulator and touchscreen. It is open 24 hours a day, every day of the year, so an early sunset is not a reason to skip a session.
Winter rates start on November 1, 2026. They are $20 an hour early in the morning and late at night, $40 in regular hours, and $45 on Friday from 6 PM and on Saturday. The rate is per bay, shared by everyone in it, plus GST. Our post on the new golf simulator rates sets out the exact hours for each band, with cost examples for two and four players, and the rates page has the current schedule.
Keeping a swing through to spring
Bring your own clubs, since PGM does not provide them. Every bay includes more than 200 virtual courses, a virtual driving range and Swing Cam, so you can keep playing rounds or just work on one thing until the courses reopen. If you play mostly late at night or early in the morning, the Night Owl membership is $129 a month plus GST, and the membership page has the hours it covers.
